Learning Bites – Remote Management

If you have already worked in or with a remote team you’ve probably experienced some of the challenges this way of working can bring: lack of mutual understanding, communication breakdowns, unproductive meetings, not knowing who knows what and actions not being followed through to name but a few. All of which are similar challenges to those facing regular teams – but when working remotely they are magnified, with the added distance exacerbating all the things that can go wrong and making the cracks harder to paper over.

Course Objectives

The objectives of this bite are to help participants:

  • To describe what constitutes good remote management
  • To identify the obstacles to managing remotely
  • To explain the benefits of effective remote management
  • To conduct a self-assessment on ‘me as a remote manager’
  • To develop an action plan for managing remotely

We will focus on understanding what remote management is and what are the obstacle a remote manager faces. We highlight the benefits of effective remote manager and create a blueprint for overcoming the challenges and difficulties inherent in remote working. We will then go on to understand strengths and areas for development ‘for you’ as a remote manager, before we review industry best practice, leading to the creation of an action Plan.
