The 5 trends in online training for 2024. Have you already joined any?

21/02/2024

Joana Teixeira identifies five trends for online training in 2024 and details the different approaches.

Online is increasingly a territory explored in learning, particularly in training. This year will accelerate this trend, with the emergence of some approaches that have not yet been pursued and the growth of others, which have already begun to spread.

Evolution in this area ends up being decisive for most learning and training. I identify, below, the 5 macrotrends that are expected to mark 2024.

Universe of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

AI is one of the most significant trends in the area of digital training in 2024. In a format that is its “natural habitat”, it has an impact that transcends even the direct field of the respective universe, relating to other modalities or themes emerging from the year that begins.

The ability of AI to generate content (text, images, audio and video), to facilitate the development of learning paths truly adapted to different learners and to allow the development of immersive learning experiences through the use of technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR , Virtual Reality) and Augmented Reality (AR ), is allowing its easy use in the context of training, in a dynamic that gained strength in the last year and which will be consolidated in this new year.

Customizable Learning Experiences

Personalization of the learning experience is the second major trend expected for 2024, in line with the path already taken.

The power of Big Data and AI allows us to fine-tune adaptive learning systems, thus making it possible to develop different learning opportunities that enable everyone to learn at their own pace and according to their own preferences and development needs.

Mobile, interactive and playful

The smartphone is becoming widespread as an option as a device for accessing training, with consequent advantages for users in terms of flexible access (anytime, anywhere) and the interactivity facilitated by this format. It is, therefore, one of the privileged vehicles of the aforementioned trend of personalization and adaptability.

At the same time, training seeks to be increasingly attractive, by capturing the attention of its recipients through different strategies, among which gamification stands out .

Microlearning

Dividing learning content into short segments, and thus allowing their access autonomously and in dynamic formats, is proving to be an effective learning approach from the point of view of information retention, with great impact at the level of the trainee’s motivation. The focus, safeguarded by shorter learning cycles , proves to be quite effective: the goals are not so far away; performance is monitored more frequently – therefore the process is more agile, which includes those adjustments that the evaluation demonstrates are necessary – and the trainee's time management is quite flexible.

Data as support

Data and blockchain are emerging as prominent trends in digital training, significantly shaping the future of learning.

Fine data analysis plays a crucial role, providing extremely important insights for those who think and design training (data on receptivity to content, preferences regarding formats, access habits, evaluation, among others) is increasingly valued, as it translates into a significant increase in effectiveness.

Decision-making based on consolidated data, which involves predicting scenarios and ensuring good results in terms of learning, guarantees the continuous improvement of training processes.
